"And so they meet!"

Their children hosted a Golden Anniversary party for them at a hall in Wyandotte with invited guests on June 19.  They were picked up at home in a 1957 Chevy limousine and delivered by a chauffeur to the hall.  But first they were taken to the river in Wyandotte for some nice pictures.

 "Hands" Poem by son, David

" Two hands held together by two nail-scarred hands for fifty years."

The hall was decorated beautifully in the 50th anniversary theme throughout.  The food was delicious.

When Pastor Jerry and Lorinda arrived, guests met them outside and "blew bubbles" toward them.  A photographer took many pictures, some of which will be shared here.  Great-granddaughter, Emily, escorted them into the hall.

At their wedding, Jerry's sister, Gloria Wright, was matron of honor and his nephew (Ina's son) was the ring bearer.  Jerry's Aunt Phyllis played the piano and her daughter, Johnanna, sang at their wedding.  Aunt Phyllis is Jerry's only living aunt.

Relatives and friends came from many out-of-town locations to share the celebration and memories.

Their church Faith Tabernacle, represented by member Myerl Baker, honored them with words of appreciation and a gift of money.  Lincoln Park Mayor was represented by Councilman Thomas Murphy who read the Mayor's Proclamation.

Jerry serenaded Lorinda while she played the keyboard.  Their grandchildren provided additional music.

Jerry re-enacted his proposal while his friends looked on.  Lorinda accepted.

Lovely tables were set up for memories and for gifts.  A picture quilt was presented to them by their son, Jerry Lee, and his wife, Billie.  Billie made the beautiful quilt.  They received other lovely and thoughtful gifts as well as gift of money, gift certificates, etc.

Their children prepared a video depicting their lives together, their children and friends.  The final scene was a poem written by their daughter, Karen Jacobs.

What a wonderful 50 year journey their marriage has been.

Pastor Jerry and Sister Lorinda Grubbs celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 20, 2009.  Their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren arranged a celebration for them the night before.  Relatives and friends came from many miles away to share in this event.

The celebration started with a ’57 Chevy, bright red, limo picking them up at their home and escorting them to the hall.  If you know Pastor Jerry, you know he loves old cars.  The night was filled with many events, including great food, fellowship and a proclamation from the mayor by Council President Thomas Murphy.

Pastor Jerry and Sister Lorinda were no doubt put together by the Lord’s hand.  They have been a great team together.  Encouraging and loving one another through the years.

Pastor Jerry was saved along with many others, now Mountain Assembly Pastors, on Junction Street in Detroit, Michigan where his dad, Rev. Paul Grubbs, was Pastor and Bro. Manos was holding revival.

Sister Lorinda accepted Jesus as her Savior at the age of nine and continued serving the Lord throughout her teenage years in the Church of God a few miles away.  Pastor Jerry’s cousin, Ancil Hyden, introduced the two of them and they knew they were destined to be together.  Pastor Jerry proposed and she said yes and the ceremony was conducted on June 20, 1959 at the Junction Street, Church of God Mountain Assembly by Rev. Paul Grubbs.  Needless to say, Pastor Jerry stole Sister Lorinda from her church and she immediately became a vital part in the Faith Tabernacle Church of God Mountain Assembly.  She became a fantastic organ player with the instruction of Jerry’s sister Gloria.  Pastor Jerry and Sister Lorinda both sang, played instruments, taught Sunday School, directed the youth, provided activities, built and remodeled churches, all while working a full time job and raising their three children, Karen, Jerry, and David.

Pastor Jerry and Sister Lorinda have been pastors and teachers now for 20 years.  They rarely take a day off; they’re always available for their congregation and they give us wonderful anointed preaching and singing week after week.  They’ve been blessed with three children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Looking back over their 50 years of marriage, they have dedicated each day to the service of the Lord.  Maybe that’s why they look so young and have all that energy.

Congratulations again Pastor Jerry and Sister Lorinda Grubbs for your 50 years of marriage.
